The EARC and ECF Team Up

The Enid Community Foundation provided a grant to The Enid Amateur Radio Club to engage youth of the Enid area in the life-long hobby of amateur radio.

The 2009 objectives of this plan are:

1) AWARENESS. Create 50% awareness of the main proposition among the core target audience.

2) PERCEPTION. Measurably shift the perception of amateur radio among all target audiences from that of "an outmoded hobby for old timers" to "a contemporary hobby with many modes for persons of all ages to explore."

3) RESPONSE. Generate amateur radio-related encounters of three different types with each of 20 youths in the core target audience.

The strategies proposed for accomplishing the 2009 plan objectives are:

Strategy One- Reach out to youth, ages 10-18, who have already self-identified as achievers by their participation in classes, groups and organizations, especially those holding science-technology interest.

Strategy Two- Draw in prospective young licensees by offering a personal, hands-on experience with the technologies, modes and practices of amateur radio.

Strategy Three- Identify, develop and encourage those licensed operators among us and around us-known as "Elmers"- who will work enthusiastically with interested youth both before and after they become licensed.

Strategy Four- Convey the message that the EARC will respond to invitations to explain amateur radio within the context of science, service or career education; and that the Club offers a monthly event called "Radioactivity Night" for those wanting to fully explore the hobby.

In September 2009 the ECF Committee began making equipment purchases to facilitate the plans objectives.

Committee team members are: Bill-K5ECI, Mike-KD5OFF, David-AD8B, Sam-KD5EUS, Tim-KD5KTB, Dave-KC5SII
